The Recreation & Leisure Club

Anchor Industries Society opened its doors to the Recreation and Leisure Club in January 2000. The Club was created to offer recreation and leisure programs to adults who are intellectually challenged and who, for various reasons, do not participate in other offered programs or work placements.

The service area for Anchor Recreation and Leisure Club covers Halifax Regional Municipality and the program is offered to individuals 19 years of age and older. The Club is funded 100% by the Department of Community Services and each individual must be supported with sufficient funds to cover their individualized program.

Focus at the Club is on recreation and leisure including crafts, games, a photo club, a walking club, spa days and special events. Participants are encouraged to be active in their community and visits to places of interest are a daily occurrence.

Located on Gloria Ave. in Lower Sackville, The Club is spacious, bright and cheerful. Separate rooms are available so that several indoor activities can be going on at the same time. Facilities include an arts and crafts room, a coffee break room, a change room, a quieter area for relaxing and a large common area for group activities and parties. Participants are encouraged to take pride in their club by providing assistance with daily cleaning and tidying up. AIS employs four full-time staff, including a hands-on supervisor, and several support staff. AIS are proud of our club and invite interested persons to drop in for a visit anytime.
