AIS is a community based, not-for-profit adult service centre. We provide employment support and job development services to adults who are intellectually challenged. We focus on the individual person and strive to satisfy their requests for service.
The OffShoot Shop
The OffShoot shop provides work skills training in mail out services, assembly line work, packaging, etc. Many of the contracts produced in The PrintShop are sent to The OffShoot Shop for completion. The OffShoot Shop also completes work sent directly by customers. Individuals working in the OffShoot Shop gain valuable work skills which are transferable to work in the community. Many individuals choose to use their skills in community employment placements.
The Ladle Restaurant
The Ladle Restaurant provides training in food preparation, baking, cash register operation, serving the public and clean-up. Their goal is to teach skills such as customer service, food handling, communication and social skills that will enable individuals to pursue community employment options.
The Print Shop
The PrintShop provides work skills training for individuals in all aspects of a printing business. Examples are photocopying, loading the photocopiers, replacing toner, stapling, operating the folding machine, stocking, filing and clean-up. The skills gained in The PrintShop are transferable to an office environment, copy centre and a print business. Individuals training in The PrintShop may choose to pursue community employment where these skills can be utilized.
All Wrapped Up
The Prevocational program provides work skills training in mail out services, assembly line work, packaging, stamping techniques for "All Wrapped Up", etc. Activities in Prevocational focus on developing and enhancing skills. The ratio of clients to staff is 3:1. Clients in the prevocational program benefit from one-tone, 15 minute scheduled training sessions with instructors.
All Wrapped Up is a small business component of The Prevocational Program consisting of the creation of wrapping materials. The business provides the opportunity to develop work, socialization and communication skills. Their product is sold on site at AIS as well as at various other venues.
