Work Skills Training
Anchor Industries Society (AIS) offers work skills training to adults with intellectual challenges through the operation of 4 businesses in the community.
Since The PrintShop first opened its doors in 1974, The OffShoot Shop, The Ladle Restaurant and All Wrapped Up have been established and offer diverse work skills training environments.
Focus On Skill Development
Developing transferable skills in preparation for community employment placements is the aim of work skills training programming.
Each work environment offers opportunities for:
- teamwork
- development of initiative
- customer service experience
- social competencies
- life skills
Operation of diverse businesses enables AIS to offer work skills training for a variety of jobs, based on the goals of the individual.
- Employment in The PrintShop prepares clients for professions in the office environment, copy centre or printing industry.
- The OffShoot Shop employees provide mail out services, assembly line services, packaging and book binding.
- The people who work in The Ladle Restaurant develop experience and expertise in the areas of food preparation, baking, short order cooking, busing tables and catering.
- All Wrapped Up provides training in work, communication and social skills
Teaching techniques include modeling, prompts, duty charts and task analysis. Behavioural charting and base lining are also used. Incentive programs such as employee of the month have been established.
Focus On Community
AIS offers individualized programs which provide learning opportunities for growth and accomplishment for adults with intellectual challenges. A sense of community is developed through empowering clients to contribute to society. AIS strives to attain a fully accepting community.
